Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common queries about IMU CET 2026.

Is IMU CET mandatory for DNS/B.Sc/B.Tech at private colleges too? β–Ύ
Yes. As per DGS Training Circular 12 of 2020, ALL Maritime Training Institutes regulated by DG Shipping must admit candidates based on IMU-CET ranking β€” whether government or private, affiliated to IMU or any other university. If you want to join any DGS-approved maritime programme in India, you must qualify IMU-CET.
Can I apply if my 12th results are not yet declared? β–Ύ
Yes! You can register using the "Result Awaited" option and appear for the CET. However, your qualifying exam results must be declared before the CET date to be eligible. You'll need to update your marks and upload your marksheet before counselling begins. Result-awaited candidates for UG programmes are eligible.
Is there a separate exam for the DNS February 2027 batch? β–Ύ
No! There will be NO separate CET for the February 2027 DNS batch. Candidates desiring admission to DNS Feb 2027 must mandatorily register for IMU-CET 2026. The rank certificate from IMU-CET 2026 will be valid for Feb 2027 DNS batch admissions as well.
What is the negative marking policy? β–Ύ
Yes, negative marking is applied. For every wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted. Unattempted questions do not attract negative marking. IMU also reserves the right to change the distribution, types, and difficulty level of questions.
Can I apply for both BBA and UG Technical (B.Tech/DNS) together? β–Ύ
Yes, but you must register separately on two different portals and pay separate application fees for both. Registering for UG Technical does NOT automatically include BBA, and vice versa. Both registrations must be completed independently.
Is the CET rank certificate valid for all institutes across India? β–Ύ
Yes, but the rank certificate is valid for the current academic session only (except DNS – Feb 2027 batch). After getting your rank, you can approach any IMU-affiliated institute, non-affiliated DGS-approved MTI, or register for IMU's online counselling to get a seat at an IMU campus directly.
Are there scholarships available for IMU students? β–Ύ
Yes, numerous scholarships are available including state government scholarships (Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Bihar, Maharashtra, etc.), Maritime Training Trust (MTT) scholarship of β‚Ή1,00,000 for Indian women seafarers, NSP scholarships, PM Scholarship, ONGC, Coal India scholarships, and many more β€” varying by campus location.
My CGPA is in the 10-point scale. How do I convert to percentage? β–Ύ
For CBSE board, multiply your Grade Point by 9.5 to get the equivalent percentage. Note: Rounding off of percentage marks is NOT permitted when filling the application form.
